The Budokan named as a recipient of the Rafu Shimpo's charity golf tournament!

Golf Course

It was a beautiful day on September 26, 2011, the Rafu Shimpo held their annual charity golf tournament at the Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The Budokan of Los Angeles was lucky enough to be named one of the beneficiaries of the tournament which proved to be very successful with 100 golfers, over 75 raffle prizes, and over 40 silent auction items varying from airline tickets, rounds of golf, dining at many restaurants and much more. The environment was friendly and lively as the golfers trickled in from a long day of golfing to enjoy the cocktail hour, dinner, raffle prizes and the silent auction items. Everyone seemed to be having a great time golfing the day away and supporting the Rafu Shimpo and the various causes which included for this year: Budokan of Los Angeles, Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival, Nikkei Games and U.S. Japan Council Earthquake Relief Fund.

LTSC and the BoLA staff are truly grateful to all of the golfers and, of course, our friends at the Rafu Shimpo for putting on such a great tournament and their generosity towards the Budokan.

What is a Budokan?

Budokan roughly translates as "martial arts hall" in Japanese. The name is derived from the Nippon Budokan, a large arena in Central Tokyo, Japan. The arena was originally constructed for judo competition during the 1964 Summer Olympics, but today serves as a multi-purpose facility that caters to sports, entertainment and other activities. Currently in the United States, there are numerous budokans which serve as multi-purpose centers for martial arts, team sports such as basketball and volleyball, community activities and other special events.
